Alone in a strange city, a young man "awoke"—not
knowing his name or his past! What could he do?
How could he start life again—and where?
A newsboy came past. "Paper! Paper, sir?"
He felt in his pocket and found coins. He drew them out, looked at them. And muttered, "Why, of course! They're American coins."
"How much?" he asked.
"Two cents," said the boy
He told himself again, "I mustn't stand here like this." He glanced at the paper. The date line read Tarlington, Connecticut, June 2nd, 1930. He tried to puzzle out whether that frightened him or not. June 2nd, 1930? It meant nothing. Tarlington? It meant nothing. Or did it? He couldn't decide.
He thought, "What's the matter with me?"
What frightened him was that at the moment he could not think of his name or anything else that any one not insane should know about himself!
